Preview: The big opening match
What
IPL 2010 kicks-off at the D.Y Patil stadium with the defending champions Deccan Chargers taking on the last placed side from the previous edition, Kolkata Knight Riders.
When
Friday, March 12, 2010. The game begins at 8.00 p.m. IST. Right after for the grand opening ceremony featuring dazzling performances by Deepika Padukone, UB40, Bjorn Again, Lionel Richie and Akon.
Where
At the D.Y. Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. One of the three home grounds for the Deccan Chargers. This swank stadium has some of the best facilities in the country and had previously hosted the IPL 2008 final.
The track is full of runs and fans can expect a run feast. The weather at the D.Y Patil stadium is hot and sunny but as the evening comes down it will get cooler. One can expect forty overs of uninterrupted, exciting action.
The Protagonists
Adam Gilchrist would like to get away to a winning start and continue from where they left off in IPL 2009. The tournament is back in India after a gap of one year and the fans will be cheering their favourite team whom they dearly missed last year. The tag of defending champions will put enough pressure on them and the former Aussie would know all about maintaining the No. 1 spot.
It’s a good chance for the Kolkata Knight Riders to redeem themselves and start their campaign with a bang. The inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008 had seen the Knight Riders score one of the highest totals and the destructive Brendon McCullum had given his side and fans lots to cheer about. Although his services will be missed for the initial games, the Knight Riders will look to captain Ganguly to lead from the front and give his fans their due.
What next?
Well begun is half done! Both teams would be looking to get off to a winning start and take it from there. A win would be nice to cheer up the guys and get them excited for the rest of the tournament. A loss for the KKR team would put them under pressure and dada would not like that. All the top stars would like to start off in style and win it for their team. Playing in India again should be a good test for the international stars and fans in India are keenly looking forward to that. Here’s to a tournament that exceeds all expectations. Cheers!
